Franck Haise suggests Lens open to re-signing Raphael Varane

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old will be a free agent in the summer and his former club Lens are open to signing him in the coming weeks. Lens manager Frank Haise has confirmed that they are looking to bring him back to the club this summer, and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

He said to L’Equipe: “Obviously a possible arrival of Raphaël Varane could interest me because of his human and playing qualities. For what it represents. Afterwards, I am not able to discuss the financial aspects. Especially since they don’t depend on me. If there was a possibility, I would be the happiest coach. But this remains to be demonstrated. »

The French international defender will be a free agent in the summer and Manchester United have not offered him an extension yet. The defender has had a mediocre spell with the Red Devils and a move away this summer would be ideal for all parties.

Manchester United need to bring in a younger defender with more potential and Varane needs to move on in search of a fresh start.

There is no doubt that he has been a quality player for club and country over the years and a return to the French league would be ideal for him. Joining his former club could be an exciting opportunity for the defender, and it will be interesting to see if Lens can secure an agreement with the defender.

Can Lens afford Raphael Varane?

He was on massive wages at Manchester United and the French club are unlikely to be able to afford that. He will have to take a big pay cut in order for that move to go through. The 31-year-old is still good enough to complete at the highest level, and he could be a key player for Lens in the coming seasons. Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer could prove to be a masterstroke.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have looked vulnerable defensively and they will need to bring in quality additions. It remains to be seen whether they can plug the gaps at the back and bounce back strongly next season.
