Uruguayan prospect Facundo Pellistri could be on his way out from Manchester United, his agent has suggested.
As relayed by ESPN, Edgardo Lasalvia made it clear he will try to accelerate Facundo Pellistri’s departure as the player is yet to break through into the first-team setup. The Uruguayan winger arrived from Penarol in 2020 but has not been able to establish a foothold at Old Trafford so far.
Manchester United had been lurking away to secure a deal for Jadon Sancho in 2020, but they were unable to break into Borussia Dortmund’s resilience. So they went ahead with two untested signings in the form of Amad Diallo from Atalanta and Pellistri from Penarol, as they thought the duo could push their attack to a new extent in near future.
Manchester United spent to the tune of £10 million to acquire Pellistri’s service. But with time passing, it has become evidently clear that the Red Devils had added two more panic buys to their list.
Despite their struggles in the final third, the Red Devils never tried the 20-year-old Uruguayan prospect, who is pretty well heralded in his country. Then manager Diego Forlan who also played for Manchester United for a brief period and suggested the youngster’s name before Manchester United went ahead to buy the player.
Daniel James had been the preference on the right that season, and Pellistri had remained a peripheral figure in the first team. The youngster is yet to register a single minute for Manchester United and is on the verge of a very likely departure.
His agent is working on a deal to find out a suitable club and he could soon be sold to an interested party. “I think that with a good World Cup, as we think it will have, his departure is imminent,” Lasalvia has said
Manchester United are known for their development of young players. With Marcus Rashford, whose deal the Red Devils want to extend, already proving his worth in the top flight, is is arguable that the Red Devils’ handling of Pellistri has not been good at all, and it could inflict bigger damage on their reputation.
The Uruguayan prospect is unlikely to be seen on the pitch before the World Cup resumes and could be one of the very rare transfers where a player rarely features for his dream club.
