Erik ten Hag sets 40-goal target for Marcus Rashford

Manchester United striker Marcus rashford has had an impressive campaign with the Red Devils and manager Erik ten Hag has now set him a new target for the next season.

The 25-year-old England international managed to score 30 goals across all competitions and the Dutch manager wants him to aim for a 40-goal season next year.

Ten Hag said (h/t The Sun): “I think yes. There’s a lot of room for improvement in his game.

“I am convinced he can score even more. When you take, for instance, the last ten games he didn’t score many goals. I think only two or three, so yes he can improve.

“I am happy from what he did last season to now that he brings himself back. We supported him where we could, with the way we play but also in his mental mindset.

“We are happy with that, but we must push him more. I think he’s capable of scoring 40 goals in a season. So for him that’s the next step.”

The England international has been in spectacular form for Manchester United and he has carried the goal-scoring responsibility on his shoulders all season. Manchester United must look to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer and the 25-year-old clearly needs more help and support from his teammates.

Meanwhile, the last time a Manchester United striker found the back of the net 30 times in a season was a decade ago when Robin van Persie was at the club.

Rashford has helped Manchester United win the English League Cup this season and secure a top four finish. It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old can help his side win the FA Cup final against Manchester City now.

The 25-year-old will certainly be hoping to improve on his form next year and Erik ten Hag should look to deploy him in his natural role as the left-sided winger. Rashford has had to lead the line for the Red Devils in the absence of alternative options. Signing a quality striker would allow the England international to play in his natural role next year.

Rashford is still only 25 and he is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. The England international is yet to enter his peak and the fans will certainly be excited to see him he hit top form this season. Rashford clearly has more room for development and working with a manager like Ten Hag could help him fulfil his tremendous potential. The Dutchman has certainly played a key role in his upturn in form this season.

Rashford had a disappointing campaign last year and he will be delighted to have bounced back strongly and helped his side win a trophy. Meanwhile, Manchester United have been linked with strikers like Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see who they end up signing eventually.
