Enzo Fernandez agent rubbishes reports of seeking summer departure

Uriel Perez, the agent of Enzo Fernandez, has rubbished links of the midfielder seeking an exit from Chelsea in the summer window.

Enzo Fernandez made headlines when Chelsea chose to pay a staggering £106 million to sign him from Benfica just over a year ago. The move materialised after the Argentine was a part of the World Cup-winning squad and also due to his performances for Benfica.

He has not managed to replicate his Argentina form, nor has he shown anything worth the money so far, and it’s been more than a year since he arrived. Chelsea, as a whole, has struggled for relevance over the last 18 months as they continue to languish in mid-table madness.

Recent reports suggested Enzo Fernandez was keen on a departure from Chelsea amid the club’s faltering form and no progress with that expensively assembled group as a whole. Moreover, the club are also planning a lot of changes in the background, with current manager Mauricio Pochettino’s future also called into question.

However, Uriel Perez, the agent of the 23-year-old Chelsea star, has rubbished rumours of the midfielder seeking an imminent exit from the club. In his comments on AS, the Argentine international’s agent claimed Fernandez is happy at the club and keen on the project presented by Chelsea.

Perez said, “The player has no intention of leaving . Chelsea were very clear with this project. It is a plan that was going to be difficult at the beginning because new and young players were going to arrive, but when the pieces of the team fit together well, Chelsea was going to move forward.”

“Enzo Fernández’s desire is to be on the team and succeed . We don’t meet with any clubs or try to talk to any clubs. We know what the player’s desire is . Obviously he would like the club to be in another position, but that will be achieved with work.”

Chelsea broke the club record with the transfer of Fernandez over a year ago and have since broken it again to sign Moises Caicedo. On paper, the Argentine-Ecuadorian duo seems like a daunting midfield pairing. But so far, nobody has seen them flourish together.

There are plenty of hopes for that to happen in the future, with Chelsea also planning further changes to their squad in the summer. Hence, Enzo Fernandez is right in thinking there is a lot more in the tank with Chelsea’s project and could seek a long-term career at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea currently are languishing outside of the top-ten places on the Premier League table as Pochettino has come under pressure to deliver European football next season. They did make it into the fifth round of the FA Cup, courtesy of their win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.
