Eden Hazard has allayed fears he might leave Real Madrid, as he confirmed the intention to stay put and fulfill the final year of his contract.

Fabrizio Romano posted a tweet confirming Eden Hazard’s intention to remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer. The Belgian will enter the final year of his contract, with many reports linking the former Chelsea star with a move elsewhere.

Hazard was supposed to fulfil his dream of playing for Real Madrid and making a big impact at the club. Chelsea got big money for the attacker when he decided to leave, but injuries have mired his time at the club in a big way.

He has his name on the Champions League trophy, something he never won at Chelsea. However, when given the chance to perform, the Belgian’s injury woes have taken the stride out of his game and allowed other stars to cement their positions in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

In hindsight, Real Madrid were ready to sell the Belgian if a reasonable offer arrived and save on his massive wages. Moreover, his injury problems and prolonged absences have allowed Vinicius Junior to rise in stature and become one of the best left-wingers in the game.

With persistent links in media regarding an exit, with Newcastle United the latest team to get linked, the 32-year-old has allayed fears about an exit. Fabrizio Romano’s tweet carried quotes from Hazard that confirmed the intention to remain at Real Madrid in the final year of his contract.

Hazard said, “Honestly, I’m planning to stay at Real Madrid next season”.

“I expect to stay as I want to celebrate the last year of the contract I have left”.

Some big clubs like Arsenal have also seen their name thrown in the media with a move for Hazard. With Mikel Arteta continuing to re-build his side with young and promising stars, the Gunners are unlikely to take on the burden of signing an expensive player with a troubled injury record.

As for the Newcastle links, Eddie Howe recently rejected the idea of singing some of these ageing superstars, including Cristiano Ronaldo. As for Hazard, he has every right to stay put and collect his massive wages, which may prove somewhat problematic for Real Madrid, who are keen to add new players.
