David Beckham is hoping that Cristiano Ronaldo stays put at Manchester United for another season, insisting he has done what he could by scoring goals.
It has been a tricky few weeks being a Manchester United supporter. The Red Devils are approaching the end of an underwhelming season, and according to David Beckham, fans would be ‘thankful’ to see the back of the current campaign.
Manchester United have bowed out of every competition they have played in, and even from the race for a top-four finish. However, their loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend has cast doubts on the prospects of playing UEFA Europa League football next season, as they could yet slip into the Europa Conference League if West Ham United win their remaining two games.
Amidst all the chaos at the club, one player who has stood out, more so in the last part of the season, has been Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward has scored 24 goals across all competitions and certainly lived up to his purpose of scoring with regularity.
There have been criticism brandished towards Ronaldo, and rightly so in some case where he was terrible on the pitch. To some degree, the 37-year-old has carried Manchester United on his shoulders on their way to getting some positive results.

With Erik ten Hag set to take over from Ralf Rangnick in the summer, there have been suggestions the Dutchman may not want to keep Ronaldo any further. Rangnick insisted the Portuguese should remain at Manchester United and see out the last year of his contract at Old Trafford.
Manchester United legend David Beckham has echoed this during an interview with Sky Sports, hoping the 37-year-old remains at the club for another season at least. Beckham insisted Ronaldo has done nothing wrong this season and kept up his end of the bargain by scoring plenty of goals.
Beckham said, “Obviously Cristiano is one of the best players over the last 15 years, with Leo [Messi]. To see him stay on, hopefully at United, is important for the fans. It’s important to him – we all know how much Man United means to him. He’s still doing what he does best, scoring goals. That’s what Cristiano does. To be doing what he’s doing at his age is really incredible, so hopefully it continues for another year or two.”
Alternatively, some stories insist ten Hag may be open to keeping Ronaldo next season. And as Beckham mentioned, the Portuguese forward has done nothing wrong and proved his mettle by becoming Manchester United’s top scorer this season.
Next season, an air of change is expected at Old Trafford, and much of the focus will be on Manchester United’s performance in the transfer market. Whether the Red Devils continue with Ronaldo or without him will be clearer in the close season, although from the many hints so far, the 37-year-old is tipped to stay put for one more season.
