Danny Murphy urges Liverpool to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili

Former Liverpool forward Danny Murphy has urged the Reds to sign Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer.

Liverpool are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues who are yet to make a signing this summer. Arne Slot’s team haven’t been that active in the transfer market for most parts. But, they have slowly started to pick up the pace and have been linked with a few top players like Martin Zubimendi and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to sign  Mamardashvili

The Reds are looking to reinforce their goalkeeping position before the end of the transfer window and have their eyes set on Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili. Their former midfielder Danny Murphy has urged the club to complete the signing of the 23-year-old after watching him do wonders for Georgia at Euro 2024.

While talking on talkSPORT via HITC, Murphy said, “I saw him live twice. He was absolutely outstanding when I saw him. He had that unbelievable match against the Czech Republic. He is 6ft 6ins, agile, a very confident young keeper. That would be a terrific signing.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili to take over from Alisson Becker?

Liverpool already have a world-class shot-stopper in Alisson Becker, who has been doing wonders for them since joining them back in 2018. While the 31-year-old has been a consistent performer and is expected to be their preferred choice in goal in the upcoming season under Arne Slot, the Reds are looking to prepare for the long run.

With the Brazilian on the wrong side of 30 and significant interest in his services from the Middle East, Liverpool are looking for an ideal long-term replacement, and they consider Giorgi Mamardashvili to be an ideal fit for their system.

The Merseyside outfit want to sign him this summer and send him out on loan to a Premier League club. Intermediaries have already held talks with Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth about that possibility.

While Mamardashvili still has three years left on his deal at the Spanish club, they seem ready to negotiate his departure as long as their demands are met. The Reds are already in talks with Valencia regarding a £30 million deal for a goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best young goalkeepers in the world. He has done exceptionally well for Valencia since joining them in 2021. He had an exceptional Euro 2024 campaign with Georgia where he guided his team to the round of 16. His performances at the European championship caught the attention of Murphy, who now wants to see Mamardashvili at his former club.
