Diego Costa’s situation at Chelsea is shrouded in confusion right now. Reports broke last night, that the Chelsea striker had been dropped from the squad after falling out with Antonio Conte, after apparently complaining of an injury that did not convince the medical staff.
Costa is said to be unsettled after receiving an offer from China, something we reported was a possibility earlier this month. Costa has been Chelsea’s best performer this season and the news comes as a shock to many, seeing as Chelsea are the favourites for the title this season.
There was plenty of laughter from Arsenal and Manchester United fans after the news broke, particularly since Costa is not very popular with fans of other clubs. There was also definitely an element of relief behind it, given the Spanish international’s brilliant form this season.
70 – China have offered Diego Costa an extra £70 million to change his national team too. Mercenary.

Chelsea fans obviously weren’t happy with the news, and there were plenty who were unimpressed with the way players are being tempted by China’s riches :
Costa and payet in the wilderness & heads turned by money, where has desire gone to play for fans, foreigners in our game all about greed

This Costa debacle couldn’t come at a worse time. Seems like every window we run into these same problems with certain players. #CFC

Surely Costa wouldn’t just leave for the money, if the Premier League favourites can’t hold onto its best players the game has gone! #Greed

Is Costa’s supposed strike whilst on £80,000 a week the most conclusive proof of football greed in living history? Sad but predictable
— Sam Elliott (@SamElliott_NLP) January 13, 2017
Payet and costa scenarios are all that’s wrong in football. Greed and petulance of the highest order let them rot and keep fining them

Costa then posted a picture on Instagram showing solidarity with Chelsea, and confusion reigned. It is unclear what his future is but suddenly things weren’t so clear-cut. No one could seem to agree on what it meant, as you’ll see from the tweets below.
But, and I hope people get it when I repeat it after that Instagram: If Costa really is China-bound, he’s half the man I believed him to be.

I’m not sure whether to believe the rumours about Costa or not. That Instagram post has given me other thoughts but it could still be true.
— Hassan Safa (@HassanSafa) January 14, 2017
@danlevene @Chelsea_HQ Fabregas was the only current Chelsea player to ‘like’ Costa’s Instagram post and he has since un-liked it. Odd.

Costa posting: “Come on Chelsea” on Instagram means nothing. He 100% had a bust up with Conte and his staff and still wants Chinese money.
— Mr.BlueGuy (@ItsMrBlueGuy) January 14, 2017
After Costa’s Instagram post at midnight, I am certain he will feature today.
