Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio has named Sandro Tonali and Pedri as dream targets to reinforce the Italian club’s midfield.
Despite their financial struggles, Juventus made significant additions to Igor Tudor’s squad in the summer transfer window. While they do have enough quality to challenge for titles, there is certainly a lack of depth in the centre of the park.
Tudor prefers having a double pivot in midfield (4-2-3-1). While he has quality options for that role, the new Juventus manager still feels the need to bring in a defensive-minded midfielder to bring balance to the team.
Claudio Marchisio’s dream targets for Juventus
The majority of his midfield options are attack-minded players, and he wants someone who can handle the defensive side of things while helping control the tempo of the game. During an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio also highlighted the club’s need to strengthen their midfield.
He went on to name two dream targets that he would love to see play for the Turin-based club. He said via Calciomercato, “What transfer market signing do I dream of for the future? As an Italian, I’d say Tonali, but the unattainable dream would be Barcelona’s Pedri.”
The Juventus legend would love to see Pedri and Sandro Tonali play for his former club. The 39-year-old did mention the fact that signing the Barcelona mainstay is an unattainable goal. The 22-year-old is a key part of the Spanish club’s project, and they have no intentions of negotiating his departure.
Pedri is fully committed to their project, and Juventus do not have the finances needed to strike a deal with the club or the player. However, they can certainly try to bring Tonali back to Italy.
Juventus can surely try to sign Sandro Tonali
The 25-year-old midfielder made the move to Newcastle United back in 2023 in a deal worth £55 million. He has only gone from strength to strength since and is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
While he is an integral part of Newcastle United’s plans and they won’t let him leave easily, Tonali seems to have an unwavering desire to return to Italy, which could help Juventus’s cause. They were interested in during the summer and could reignite their pursuit in the future.
The Italian international’s arrival can certainly help bolster their Old Lady’s midfield. It will help them fill the void left following Douglas Luiz’s departure. However, the financial side of things won’t make things easier for them. A high-profile departure could help them strike a deal with the Magpies. But if they don’t manage to raise enough funds, Juventus might have to look at other targets.
