Chelsea renewal priority for Jorginho, agent admits

Jorginho’s agent has insisted that the Italian international will be looking to extend his stay with Chelsea if their issues could be resolved.

One of the toughest sanctions in football history hangs over the head of Chelsea Football Club after the UK Government made its stance clear. One of the strangest rules is the possibility of not signing any player or extending the contracts of some of their existing stars until further notice.

If this is the reality, the situation could get far more complex and terrifying for Chelsea in the coming summer. A few players such as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are all coming to the end of their current deals, while many others will now have a year left on their contracts in the summer.

Among those are midfield stars like N’Golo Kante and Jorginho. The latter has been linked with a move to Juventus in the summer, and it could very well materialise if the situation at Stamford Bridge does not change.

Things are moving swiftly in the right direction over at Chelsea and their search for a prospective new buyer. However, if there are more complexities in purchasing the club, many believe some of the club’s major stars could depart, and Jorginho could be among those.

However, now his agent, Joao Santos, has insisted that Jorginho’s priority remains to extend his stay with Chelsea. In his comments, as quoted by Goal, Santos appeared to confirm the intention, although he suggested Chelsea will have to solve their issues first.

Santos said, “We have a contract with Chelsea until 2023 and it is a particular moment for the club, where there are no negotiations, also because the market is blocked both in entry and in exit. If the situation unfolds, the priority will be to deal with the renewal.”

Santos also conceded a move to Turin could become an option if things do not improve at Stamford Bridge, as the agent confirmed Juventus’s interest. He continued, “I haven’t talked to Juve, but I know of their interest in Jorginho. Should Chelsea fail to renew their contract, then we will listen to all the teams involved.”

Only time will tell if Chelsea will be rid of the constraints imposed on them by the UK government. If the club’s sale goes through in time, the Blues could be on the right track, including tying Jorginho to a bumper new contract.
