Chelsea fans were left fuming at their side’s embarrassing defensive performance against bitter rivals Arsenal as they capitulated 3-0 at the hands of the Gunners.
It was an evening to forget for the army of Chelsea supporters that made their way down to the Emirates on Saturday hoping to extend a proud unbeaten run over Arsenal to 10. But given their recent struggles and poor performances, the supporters were vary of their side’s credentials and the threat Arsenal posed.
However, what transpired over the course of the ensuing 90 minutes would be the stuff of nightmares for the most loyal of Blues’ fans as Arsenal carved into them in a ruthless first half display that saw them 3-0 up at half-time. The fact that the score remained that way at full-time was more a matter of Arsenal holding themselves back than an improved rear-guard action from Chelsea, which speaks volumes about how poor the Blues were on the evening.
While fans in the stadium weren’t as vocal, supporters and pundits alike on social media ripped the Chelsea players apart for their miserable performance on the evening. Gary Cahill and new-boy David Luiz bore the brunt of the criticism for their poor showing as their defensive errors directly or indirectly contributed to Arsenal’s goals.
Chelsea look old. Which is a damning indictment of a club that wins the Youth Cup every year.

Roberto Di Matteo deserves a humanitarian award and a statue for winning the Champions League final with Luiz and Cahill

Gary Cahill and David Luiz is the worst centre half partnership since Gary Cahill and David Luiz.

Anyone doubting how important John Terry remains to Chelsea should watch how Gary Cahill performs without him.

Cahill was inspirationally bad today. I dream of being that bad at anything. That’s the kind that takes real, concentrated effort.

Recall Christensen. Play Zouma with JT when they get fit. Adios to Branna, Matic and Cahill. AND EVERYONE ELSE, PLAY FOR THE F*CKING SHIRT.

Like for Cahill and Luiz pic.twitter.com/BsZ6mshhwz— BenchWarmers (@BeWarmers) September 24, 2016
Cahill and Luiz with a 2-on-2, against Sanchez and Ozil. Both of them decide to just stand in the middle and not go to either man. Gold.

It’s actually hilarious watching Cahill and Ivanovic try and defend.

78 – Gary Cahill needs to make 78 more terrible mistakes before Chelsea start thinking it might be worth buying a better defender. Mishaps.

Ivanovic and Cahill conspire in Arsenal’s opening goal. It’s been true for a while – those two are a weak area for Chelsea. Now 2-0, 13m.
