Benjamin Sesko comments on start to life as Manchester United player

Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko has reflected on his early days as a Manchester United player after arriving from RB Leipzig.

After impressing at RB Leipzig, Benjamin Sesko took the next step in his career with a big-money move to Manchester United this summer. While expectations are high for one of the best young strikers in the world, his early days at Old Trafford have not been easy.

Benjamin Sesko on his first taste of English football

The 22-year-old is currently away on international duty, but he did get a chance to speak about his move to Old Trafford during an interview. While talking about his initial days at the club, Sesko discussed his time so far The Standard.

“The level of the matches is certainly much higher, the players and teammates are also at a higher level. After all, English football is at the highest level in the world of football. But I am very much looking forward to the coming period, also because I am getting better and faster in every training session, and I am also progressing in my football mentality every day.”

Manchester United broke the bank to sign the 22-year-old from RB Leipzig. The deal could cost them up to £73.7 million if all add-ons are met. Ruben Amorim was keen on having a world-class striker leading his line, and the board has provided him with exactly the kind of number nine he was looking for.

However, Sesko has not really had the best of starts. While he has been ever-present in their squad and has featured in four matches (one start, three substitute appearances), the Slovenian striker is yet to find the back of the net.

Apart from the fact that he is yet to score his first goal, the decision to give him the tenth penalty in the Carabao Cup shoot-out defeat to Grimsby Town drew widespread criticism. While things have not gone smoothly for the 22-year-old, he believes he is gradually adapting to the pace of English football.

Benjamin Sesko has admitted there is a significant difference in quality, but he remains confident that he will soon adjust to the conditions and start delivering. With Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha picking up injuries against Burnley last weekend, the former RB Leipzig striker could get his full Premier League debut after the international break against rivals Manchester City.

Sesko is gearing up for the Manchester derby

While Benjamin Sesko is yet to score against Manchester City in his two previous meetings as a RB Leipzig player, he is excited to be involved in the Manchester derby. It could end up being the perfect start to his Manchester United career if he manages to find the back of the net in this all-important fixture and helps his team secure three valuable points.

Sesko added, “It’s true, it’s an incredibly big match coming up. There will simply be some pressure on both sides to just win this match. There’s still quite a bit to go until this match, but we’re definitely looking forward to a top-notch match.”

Sesko might have had a slow start to his Manchester United career, but he certainly has all the qualities needed to succeed in the English top flight. The 22-year-old has already proven himself at the highest level, and it is only a matter of time before he gets going at Old Trafford.
