French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni was linked with a move to Liverpool before he decided to join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Aurelien Tchouameni has revealed to French outlet Le Parisien that he had discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential move, but he decided to join Real Madrid instead.

The 22-year-old Real Madrid midfielder also revealed that Paris Saint-Germain were interested in securing his services, but he wanted to move to the Spanish club because he believes Los Blancos are best the club in the world.

“The first to come forward was Liverpool. We had discussions,” he told Le Parisien.

“Then Real arrived. And in my head everything was clear. It was Real and not another. It’s the biggest club in the world. I told my agent: ‘As long as there is interest, we do everything to go there’. I was already sure.

“When Paris showed up, my choice was already made, even if I was happy to be approached by PSG.”

The former AS Monaco midfielder ended up completing €100 million move to Real Madrid, and Liverpool opted to splash their transfer budget on the Uruguayan international striker Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool were desperate for midfield reinforcements at the start of the season, and Tchouameni would have been a superb signing for them. The Reds have struggled with midfield problems throughout the season, and it will be interesting to see if they can bring in the necessary reinforcements in January or at the end of the season.

Liverpool have been linked with players like Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Tchouameni has been an inspirational signing for Real Madrid, and he has already nailed down a starting berth under Carlo Ancelotti.

The youngster is expected to be a future star, and his current performances suggest that he could develop into one of the best midfielders in the world over the next few seasons. Meanwhile, Real Madrid need to bring in quality midfielders as potential replacements for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Both club stalwarts are in their twilight years, and Real Madrid will have to plan for their succession adequately. Tchouameni has already proven to be a quality acquisition, and it remains to be seen whether Eduardo Camavinga can establish himself as a key player for the Spanish giants over the next few seasons. Real Madrid, like Liverpool, are also interested in Bellingham and Rice.
