Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo is all set to return to his parent club Juventus in the summer after a disappointing loan spell.

Arthur Melo has confirmed (h/t Fichajes) that he will be parting ways with Liverpool after the end of the season. The 26-year-old midfielder will return to his parent club Juventus after his loan move ends. However, he is unlikely to continue in Italy.

The Brazil international has hinted that he would prefer to play his football in Spain next season. And, it will be interesting to see if there is a club that is willing to bet on the 26-year-old who has not had the best of times for the past few seasons.

Melo has hardly played any football this season and he feels that he needs a new challenge elsewhere. However, the 26-year-old did show his respect to the Liverpool fans and their boss Jurgen Klopp. The Brazil international talked about how well the German boss has treated him. And, even made his intentions clear about a move to Spain.

Melo said via Fabrizio Romano, “I’m ready for a new challenge. I hope to say goodbye to #LFC by playing some minutes. I want to say thanks to fans, club and Klopp who always treated me well. I feel very good now. La Liga could be an option for me now.”

Arthur moved to Barcelona from Gremio back in the summer of 2018. He was a part of the Catalan giants’ first team setup for two seasons. He featured in 72 matches and was involved in just 10 goals. The 26-year-old did not have the desired impact and he failed to live up to the expectations.

Juventus bought him to the club in the summer of 2020. The Old Lady bet on the 26-year-old and hoped that he would repay their faith. However, things did not go according to plan as he featured in 63 matches but only contributed towards two goals.

After two disappointing seasons, he was loaned out to Liverpool where he has only made one appearance so far. Melo is yet to feature in the Premier League for the Merseyside club. However, he hopes that Klopp will give him a few minutes towards the end of the season before he says goodbye to the club.

Liverpool do have a buy option in his contract. However, there is absolutely no chance that they will trigger it. While Arthur is set to return to Juventus, he is likely to be sold or loaned out in the summer. And, the 26-year-old has already hinted that he would prefer a move to Spain. As a result, it will be interesting to see where he ends up playing his football next season.
