Feyenoord CEO Dennis te Kloese claims their manager Arne Slot was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur parted ways with Antonio Conte towards the end of last season. The Italian manager was no longer on good terms with the players as well as the people at the club. As a result, they decided to sack him.

Conte’s departure did make life difficult but they managed to get past the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, the search for a new manager was already underway. There were quite a few names on their radar and Arne Slot was one of the names on their long list of targets.

But, they failed to acquire the services of the Feyenoord manager and ended up signing former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou. The Australian manager is off to a great start in the new season, Spurs are unbeaten in the league with 13 points out of their first five outings. The initial days have gone according to plan for the former Celtic boss and he will hope for similar results in the future.

While Spurs have sorted out the managerial situation, they really wanted to have Arne Slot on their bench as their new boss. The 45-year-old has been doing wonders for the Dutch club since arriving back in 2021. He has led them into 107 matches and averages 2.11 points per game.

Slot’s men were sensational last season as they ended up winning the league by seven points. On the back of his team’s impressive performances, quite a few clubs wanted to have him on their bench.

Spurs were on the lookout for a new boss and they were keen on having the 45-year-old as their new manager. According to the Dutch club’s CEO, the London club tried to hire him and he was close to joining them. But Slot was keen on continuing at Feyenoord and he ended up rejecting the opportunity.

Regarding Arne Slot to Tottenham Hotspur, Dennis te Kloese said to ESPN via 1908.nl: “Arne Slot was close to a transition, that is why we are happy that he is still there,”

“We hope that his choice turns out well. To be honest, I hope we end up in the same position because that means we’re going to have a good year.”

Te Kloese is quite happy with Slot’s decision to continue at the Dutch club despite offers from the Premier League. The Feyenoord CEO hopes that the 45-year-old’s choice turns out well and that he has another successful year with the club.

Even Slot is happy to continue at the Dutch club, he feels it was not the right time to leave. He feels that even his family is quite happy and settled in the Netherlands. And, it might have also played a part in his decision.
