Antonio Conte praises Dejan Kulusevski after Tottenham beat Leeds

Antonio Conte was full of praise for his new signing Dejan Kulusevski, who was exceptional against Leeds United.

Tottenham players showed they care for the club and their manager after responding to recent disappointing results with a stunning display at Elland Road. Spurs beat Leeds United 4-0, and there were a few notable names who put in big performances.

After a difficult week for Antonio Conte, who first criticised the club and then reaffirmed his commitment to them, the team’s display in the win over Leeds was a welcome reprieve. The result keeps Tottenham in the hunt for a top-four place.

In the criticism Conte recently directed towards the club, he also spoke about their transfer dealings in January. The Italian appeared to have suggested that Tottenham weakened the squad by selling important players and getting fewer replacements.

It is one of those replacements that has shone in recent weeks. Dejan Kulusevski, who has made only three starts for the club, already has two goals and an assist to his name. He opened his account against Manchester City last weekend and found the net again at Elland Road.

The attacker made the goal all by himself with his strong, physical play to get past Leeds defenders and slam the ball in at the near post. Kulusevski has taken no time to settle and has already taken Lucas Moura’s place in the team, with the Brazilian operating from the bench in the last three games.

Kulusevski’s performances have not gone unnoticed in his manager’s eyes as Conte heaped praise on the Swedish star. The Italian’s comments appeared on Football London, as he spoke about the winger and suggested he will be an important player for the future.

Conte said, “I was very clear when I signed Bentancur and Kulusevski. Two perfect players for the club, young talented players to develop. Kulusevski is a player who is only 21 years old, and in these four games, he could have scored in every game.

“I think he is showing that he is a fantastic player for the present but also he if he continues in this way he can become a really important player. He is strong, physically good technically, he has no fear of the opponent or the tackle. It is a good sign, with Harry and Son, also Lucas Moura and Bergwijn, offensively we are good, and I am happy for this.”

The result sees Tottenham move up to seventh place in the table, five points below fourth-placed Manchester United, who were held to a goalless draw by Watford on Saturday.
