Manchester United crashed to a 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, and Andre Onana accepted blame for it.

Summer signing Andre Onana produced another error-prone performance, and the 27-year-old was criticised heavily after the game. The goalkeeper admitted his mistake after the game and he blamed himself for Manchester United’s defeat to Bayern Munich.

Onana allowed Bayern Munich to open the scoring with a poor save, and the German outfit took control of the contest ever since. And he requested an interview with CBS Sports to have his say on the defeat.

“It’s difficult to lose this way because in the beginning, we started very good. After my mistake, we lost control of the game. It’s a difficult situation for us, for me especially because I’m the one who let the team down. Because of me we didn’t win but we just have to move on. This is the life of the goalkeeper.”

The 27-year-old was signed as a replacement for David de Gea earlier this summer. But he has not been able to live up to the expectations at Old Trafford. The former Manchester United goalkeeper was one of the best in the world during his time at Old Trafford, and the Red Devils needed to bring in someone reliable to replace him.

Although Onana had an impressive 2022/23 campaign with Inter Milan and helped them reach the final of the UEFA Champions League, he has not been able to hit the ground running at Manchester United. It will be interesting to see if the Cameroon goalkeeper can recapture his peak form in the coming weeks.

His performances have been largely underwhelming, and it will be interesting to see if Erik ten Hag decides to dip into the transfer market in January in order to bring in another goalkeeper. The poor performances in recent weeks might have hurt Onana’s confidence, and it will be interesting to see how he bounces back.

The 27-year-old has proven his quality at clubs like Inter Milan and Ajax. There is no doubt that he could be an asset for Manchester United in the long term. However, the pressure to perform is high at a big club like Manchester United and the 27-year-old will have to make amends quickly.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will be disappointed with the defeat against Bayern Munich, and it remains to be seen whether they can bounce back strongly in the upcoming matches. The Red Devils had a disappointing start to the league campaign as well and they are currently in the bottom half of the table.
