Alan Smith criticises Chelsea for “quite a few problems”

Chelsea have decided to part ways with Enzo Maresca after a difficult run of form in recent weeks, and Alan Smith has panned the West London club.

Enzo Maresca has struggled to turn things around, and he has had his differences with the hierarchy as well. Chelsea have now confirmed his departure as well. Chelsea are interested in investing in talented young players for the future, whereas the Italian tactician wanted experienced players who can perform immediately and help the team win trophies.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has had his say on the matter. Maresca has done an excellent job at Chelsea since taking over, and he helped them win the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, along with the FIFA Club World Cup. However, the differences in approach from the club hierarchy and the manager have led to a fallout.

Chelsea have been linked with multiple managers, including Liam Rosenior. He is a young manager with a lot of potential, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea decides to bring him in. Meanwhile, Alan Smith from Sky Sports has claimed that there are a few problems at Chelsea and Maresca should not be shouldering all the blame.

“They aren’t all singing off the same hymn sheet at Chelsea. There a lot of talk about Maresca and the sporting directors. They want to go one way and he wants a bit more experience in the team.

“The head coach at Chelsea maybe has to take direction more than some other managers in the Premier League Chelsea as a club seem to want to recruit more younger players that they can sell on at a profit, but that doesn’t always win you football matches.

“Maresca has also been criticised for his in-game management and that is justified at times. He’s been unable to change the course of games. From this angle, it looks like there might be a parting of the ways sometime in the not too distant future.

“There’s been talk about Liam Rosenior coming from Strasbourg and that doesn’t seem to want to go away. He’s a young manager and that would be a huge step up. But all in all, there are quite a few problems at Stamford Bridge at the moment.”

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can replace Maresca properly and bring in a quality manager. They are among the biggest clubs in the world, and they should be fighting for league titles and the UEFA Champions League. They need a reliable manager who can take them back to the top of English football.
