Crystal Palace may soon turn to 53-year-old Danish tactician to replace Pierre Sage if the French manager’s situation worsens.
According to an update from Mick Brown on Football Insider, while Crystal Palace are not entirely convinced by Thomas Frank, they are doing due diligence to replace Pierre Sage with the former Tottenham Hotspur manager. The 53-year-old is open to joining the South London club if they make their move.
Thomas Frank and his Premier League career so far
Thomas Frank is waiting for his next assignment since parting ways with Tottenham Hotspur midway through the 2025/26 season. While the Dane arrived with fresh ideas, issues at the club and his tactical shortcomings prematurely ended the short association between the two parties.
Before that, the 53-year-old had established himself as one of the most underrated managers in the Premier League. Frank’s tactical acumen was key in making the Bees a mainstay in the top flight following their promotion.
Frank became renowned for enabling Brentford to play as more than the sum of their parts, thus capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. While the Danish tactician’s stock has fallen after the ill-fated stint with Tottenham, he remains a target for several well-known clubs, particularly from the Premier League.
Will Frank manage another London club soon?
Crystal Palace previously showed interest in Thomas Frank when they were working on finding a long-term replacement for Oliver Glasner. The South London club ultimately appointed Pierre Sage as the new head coach, but the Frenchman has struggled to galvanise the group after a brutal summer transfer window.
The Eagles have managed only seven points from their opening seven Premier League games, and they suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend. The start to the UEFA Europa League campaign has also been a mixed bag with a win and a defeat. That has heaped pressure on Sage, compelling Crystal Palace to consider replacements.
Recent reports have linked the South London outfit with Vitor Matos and several other managers. While Frank is down the pecking order, he has the experience of managing a mid-table team, and his willingness to join Crystal Palace keeps the possibility of a deal open.
