Michael Carrick’s position might be secure for the time being, as Manchester United sources deny contact with Antonio Conte.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are not planning to change their manager in the near future despite rumours surrounding Carrick’s immediate future. The club are also reportedly denying any contact or talks with Conte about becoming the Englishman’s potential successor.
Carrick has come under intense pressure in recent weeks after overseeing a string of poor results for Manchester United. At the weekend, the club endured a frustrating draw against Fulham, while they have also suffered defeats to Manchester City in the league and Brighton in the EFL Cup.
Despite reports that the club had already begun planning for a potential successor, Carrick’s position is believed to be secure for the time being. Nevertheless, media reports about his future continue to emerge, with several managerial names, including Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, being linked with the role.
Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has also been mentioned, while other reports have linked Manchester United with Antonio Conte, the former Chelsea manager. At present, there are no immediate concerns over Carrick’s position, and the club are likely to remain committed to their 2026 arrival, who was appointed on a permanent basis this summer.
Antonio Conte links denied
The report states that although Manchester United have decided to remain with Carrick, the links with Conte have been denied. Club sources indicate that there has been no contact with the former Chelsea manager regarding a potential move to Old Trafford, while the experienced Italian remains available for a new role.
Conte left his position at Napoli after two seasons, during which he led the team to the Scudetto in his first campaign. He has previously managed Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan, winning league titles with all three clubs, although he failed to win a major trophy during his time at Tottenham.
Some may consider Conte the ideal candidate to replace Carrick if Manchester United decide to part ways with the English tactician. However, there are no immediate concerns over Carrick’s future.
The names of Conte and other potential candidates could continue to circulate if Manchester United’s form fails to improve under Carrick. Although his position is secure for now, there are no guarantees that he will remain in charge if the team continues to struggle.
