Manchester City are closing in on landing 46-year-old Italian tactician Enzo Maresca as their new manager.
Enzo Maresca has been linked with Manchester City in recent months, and talks for a compensation figure are now at an advanced stage, as per an update by Ben Jacobs. The former Chelsea manager was shown the door midway through the 2025/26 season and will now look to return to Premier League action with Manchester City.
The deal was being held up because Manchester City have been struggling to agree on reasonable compensation with Chelsea. However, it seems that an agreement between the two clubs is now close.
Maresca had done an impressive job at Chelsea before being sacked, and it remains to be seen whether he can make his mark at Manchester City. He will be replacing one of the best managers of all time, and it will be a tricky challenge to take over from Pep Guardiola.
Replacing Guardiola will be a massive challenge
Pep Guardiola has won several major trophies with Manchester City during his time at the club, and replicating his record will be next to impossible for any manager. In addition, he introduced an exceptional attacking style of football during his time at Manchester City.
There is no doubt that Maresca is a talented manager, and he has a big future in the game. The former Chelsea boss has worked with Guardiola as part of Guardiola’s coaching staff, and he is expected to make a significant impact at Manchester City.
Manchester City have several quality players at their disposal and are expected to fight for major trophies. They missed out on the Premier League title last season, and it remains to be seen whether they can compete with Arsenal for the league title this time around. They will look to do well in the UEFA Champions League as well.
