AC Milan are closing in on appointing Ruben Amorim as their new manager, with the Portuguese coach reportedly willing to accept the club’s conditions as a final decision awaits
Ruben Amorim is set to accept AC Milan’s conditions as a manager, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on X that the Portuguese coach is ready to finalise the role pending the club’s formal decision.
AC Milan have been searching for a new manager to lead their rebuild after a disappointing end to the season forced significant structural changes, and Amorim, who has been without a club since leaving Manchester United, appears to be their primary target.
AC Milan endured an abysmal end to their season, which forced the club into making key decisions. The Rossoneri were in the title race for most parts of the campaign, but a late collapse saw them finish outside the top four, missing out on Champions League qualification.
Those performances led to the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri as manager, alongside a broader overhaul behind the scenes. Sporting director Igli Tare, head of recruitment Geoffrey Moncada, and CEO Giorgio Furlani were all part of sweeping changes, marking a strong statement of intent from the club.
Ruben Amorim to AC Milan?
Amorim had been identified as a frontrunner for the AC Milan job, and it now appears the former Manchester United coach is edging closer to the role. Fulham were reportedly interested in appointing Amorim as a replacement for new Benfica boss Marco Silva, but the direction now points toward a move to San Siro, although he was not the only candidate under consideration.
Fabrizio Romano also stated that Oliver Glasner was a serious target, with the Austrian holding extensive talks with the club hierarchy. While Glasner had been awaiting a decision, Amorim now appears to be leading the race. The Portuguese coach is reportedly ready to accept the conditions laid out by AC Milan and is waiting for final confirmation.
Tactical fit and squad structure
The squad structure naturally suits a back-three system, which both Glasner and Amorim favour. Glasner deployed that approach effectively at Crystal Palace, while Amorim also implemented a similar system at Manchester United, though his tenure at Old Trafford produced mixed results.
For AC Milan, a coach experienced in a structured back-three defensive setup could provide the tactical clarity the Rossoneri have lacked, particularly after Allegri’s departure left questions about the squad’s long-term direction.
Amorim is awaiting final confirmation from AC Milan as the club moves closer to an appointment. The Portuguese coach appears well-suited to the tactical profile required at San Siro, with the squad offering the player profiles and positional flexibility his system demands.
