While the Portuguese tactician was extensively linked with the SL Benfica job and a potential return to Portugal, he was reportedly never keen on a return to his homeland. He is instead determined to test himself in the best European leagues.
AC Milan did not have the best of seasons last time out, as they could only manage a fifth-placed finish in Serie A. While they will be featuring in Europe next season, the Serie A giants did miss out on a UEFA Champions League spot, and it cost Allegri his job.
