Crystal Palace in talks to appoint Dino Toppmoller

Crystal Palace are engaged in talks with former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmoller, as uncertainty surrounding Andoni Iraola continues.

Crystal Palace are eager to name their new manager at the earliest possible opportunity, with a few candidates high on their list. As per Florian Plettenberg, the Eagles have opened talks with former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmoller, as uncertainties surrounding top target Andoni Iraola continue in the background.

Oliver Glasner left Crystal Palace on the back of a massive victory in the Conference League final. The result ensured the Londoners got their hands on a maiden European title, as they now begin the search for the Austrian’s replacement.

Palace had been confident about landing Andoni Iraola as their top target, but there has been no decision from the Spaniard yet following his departure from Bournemouth. Should he take up the role at Palace, there will be Europa League football on offer, but the Spanish tactician is yet to choose his next club. There are reports that he would prefer to join Liverpool should they part company with Arne Slot, while AC Milan are also in the picture.

Dino Toppmoller a target for Crystal Palace?

BBC’s Sami Mokbel reported that Palace are expecting a formal decision from Iraola, but there are still plenty of uncertainties around the Spaniard’s next move. Hence, the Eagles are open to holding talks with other candidates, with the list including the likes of Dino Toppmoller.

The 45-year-old German manager is out of a job following his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the Bundesliga season. He has been on Crystal Palace’s list for some time now, and it appears the two parties are in discussions over the role in the dugout at Selhurst Park.

Who will be Crystal Palace’s next manager?

Toppmoller has a decent track record, although he did endure a difficult season at Frankfurt as they finished outside the European spots. He has managed over 120 games at the Bundesliga side and remains a highly rated coach in the market.

The 45-year-old German is certainly not Palace’s first-choice replacement for Glasner, with Iraola remaining the priority target. The club are expected to keep pushing for the Spaniard, and if a decision does not arrive soon, they could accelerate talks to bring in an alternative like Toppmoller.
