Aston Villa boss Unai Emery could be tempted by the opportunity to manage Spanish giants Real Madrid starting next season.
With Alvaro Arbeloa’s appointment not going according to plan, Real Madrid are on the lookout for their next permanent manager. The Spanish giants have quite a few top names on their wishlist.
Aston Villa’s Unai Emery is a part of their shortlist, and according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, an offer from Real Madrid could tempt the Spanish manager. He could end up leaving Villa Park, despite having had a lot of success at the club since taking charge.
Emery, who has a great track record in Spanish football, took charge at Villa Park towards the end of 2022. He has completely transformed the club. They have gone from a mid-table side to one that regularly pushes to secure Champions League football.
Emery could leave Aston Villa for Real Madrid
The West Midlands outfit are currently fifth in the Premier League and have also made it to the Europa League final, a competition that Emery will be looking to lift for the fifth time. While he is content at Aston Villa and still has three years left on his deal, the report suggests Real Madrid’s offer could turn heads.
With all that is going on at the Spanish club behind the scenes, they are looking for a world-class manager who can take control of the dressing room. Emery could be an ideal fit for the role, given the kind of experience he has.
Not only does the Spaniard have an impressive record in La Liga, but he has also done a decent job during his spells at Arsenal and PSG. He has been strongly linked with the Real Madrid job, and it is believed that he would find it very difficult to turn them down. Despite the ongoing turmoil, Emery would be more than happy to return to Spain to take on a new challenge.
While speaking about Emery’s potential move to Madrid, O’Rourke said, “If Unai Emery is going to be tempted away from Aston Villa, it would have to be a huge club like Real Madrid. A club like Real Madrid, with their ambitions, I’m sure will be attractive to pretty much all top managers out there as well.
“Aston Villa will be hoping to keep hold of him by qualifying for the Champions League this year. He’s done a great job at Villa, reaching the Europa League final and qualifying for the Champions League will be a very successful season for Villa. They’ll be pretty confident they can keep hold of Emery and it does seem Emery is happy at Villa as well.”
While it is not yet certain if Los Blancos will make a move for him, if they do, he will surely struggle to turn them down. As far as Aston Villa are concerned, they want him around at all costs and will be everything in their power to ensure that he continues at Villa Park.
