Julian Nagelsmann has doubts about joining Chelsea

Julian Nagelsmann has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League ahead of the 2026/27 season, but he harbors significant doubts about joining Chelsea.

According to Mick Brown on Football Insider, Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in Julian Nagelsmann. The 38-year-old is highly rated across Europe as a talented young manager with a bright future. He currently manages the German national team but is expected to leave after the World Cup. The opportunity to manage in the Premier League could be attractive, yet sources reveal the German tactician has reservations about joining Chelsea specifically.

As per the reporting by Mick Brown on Football Insider, Nagelsmann’s hesitation stems from Chelsea’s unstable managerial structure. The Blues are seeking a permanent replacement for Liam Rosenior, and they want to finalise a deal quickly rather than wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He said, “BlueCo will move on to their fifth manager since they’ve taken over, which is staggering really. There’s been long-term interest in Julian Nagelsmann, the Germany coach, but I hear he’s got reservations about taking the job. And again, I don’t think Chelsea will be willing to wait until after the World Cup to bring in a new manager, they want to do it quickly.

“There’ll be a number of candidates that the club are going to look at and evaluate, because they need to get this managerial appointment right. They can’t keep chopping and changing managers because it’ll just mean they keep falling behind their big rivals.”

Chelsea’s track record under BlueCo ownership is troubling. The West London outfit’s constant managerial changes and inconsistent project direction explain why Nagelsmann views the position with caution. Champions League qualification also remains uncertain for the upcoming campaign.

Manchester United Eye Nagelsmann As Chelsea Trail Cools

Nagelsmann’s hesitation about Chelsea represents a significant boost for Manchester United, who are actively monitoring the German tactician. Michael Carrick has impressed since taking over, though it remains unclear whether the Red Devils will persist with him long-term.

If Manchester United decide to pursue a more established name for the summer, Nagelsmann would be an elite option. The Red Devils are among world football’s biggest institutions, and the opportunity could appeal strongly to the 38-year-old. Manchester United possess the financial resources, global reach, and squad quality to attract top-tier managerial talent.

Nagelsmann’s proactive, adventurous approach to play aligns well with Manchester United’s traditions. The former Bayern Munich boss has demonstrated his ability to develop attacking football and extract maximum potential from talented squads. His appointment would likely generate excitement among United supporters and could fundamentally reshape the club’s tactical identity going forward.
