Liverpool eyeing Roberto De Zerbi as Arne Slot replacement

Liverpool may turn to 46-year-old Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi if they decide to sack Arne Slot in the coming months.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Roberto De Zerbi is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the managerial market for a possible replacement for Arne Slot amid a frustrating 2025/26 campaign. So, the Marseille head coach has emerged as a target, with Tottenham also vying for his signature. However, the 46-year-old is keen on joining Manchester United if the opportunity arises.

How has Roberto De Zerbi fared in his career so far?

Roberto De Zerbi has established himself as one of the world’s best young managers over the past half a dozen years. The 46-year-old tactician worked with four clubs before joining Sassuolo, where he rose in prominence. His stock skyrocketed after joining Brighton & Hove Albion, and he spent two seasons with the Premier League outfit.

De Zerbi left Brighton to join Marseille after the 2023/24 season, and he oversaw a fruitful 2024/25 campaign, guiding Les Phoceens to the UEFA Champions League. The Italian manager’s exploits at the Ligue 1 club have not gone unnoticed, compelling Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur to consider a move.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Liverpool may dip into the managerial market if Arne Slot’s situation becomes untenable in the coming months. The Reds have endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign, and they are at risk of missing out on a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Several candidates have thus emerged on Liverpool’s wishlist, with De Zerbi also a viable target.

Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as they have parted ways with Ruben Amorim this week. While the Red Devils will stick with an interim head coach for the rest of the 2025/26 season, they view the Marseille boss as a viable long-term replacement for Amorim.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, the North London club mulled over appointing De Zerbi as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement, but a deal did not materialise. Thomas Frank took over from the Australian tactician, and he has overseen a dreadful 2025/26 campaign. So, De Zerbi is an option worth considering for Tottenham.

However, while Liverpool and Tottenham will provide appealing projects to De Zerbi, the 46-year-old Italian tactician is reportedly keen on joining Manchester United. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the in-demand Marseille boss amid his links with Premier League clubs.
