RC Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior has reportedly given the green light to join Chelsea as their new head coach.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are now a step closer to securing a replacement for Enzo Maresca, as Liam Rosenior is ready to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. He has informed the BlueCo about his decision.
The West London club parted ways with Maresca on the first day of the new year, following tension between the owners and the manager. Their disappointing results in December also played a part, but the majority of it was down to what went down behind the scenes.
After the departure of the Italian manager, the club’s ownership held talks with Liam Rosenior’s camp and informed the Englishman about their desire to have him on their bench. While Chelsea have also been looking at other options, the 41-year-old, who manages the sister club RC Strasbourg in France, has been their top priority since the start.
Rosenior to replace Maresca at Chelsea
Liam Rosenior was already aware of the ownership’s long-term plans of having him eventually manage Chelsea. When the English tactician signed a new deal back in April, BlueCo made it clear to him that he was to succeed Enzo Maresca. However, neither party expected it to happen this season.
An unexpected turn of events has forced them to ask Rosenior to take charge of the West London club. While they do have other options, the Blues consider the 41-year-old Englishman an ideal fit for their project at Stamford Bridge.
Rosenior was not keen on holding talks about his future prior to the game against OGC Nice on Saturday. Following the 1-1 draw, it now looks like it was his final match in charge of the French club. While the BlueCo are aware that taking him away from Strasbourg will weaken the Ligue 1 outfit, they are already pushing hard to find an ideal replacement.
The French club have held talks with a few potential candidates, and it will be interesting to see who takes his place at Stade de la Meinau Strasbourg, if Rosenior does end up moving to Chelsea in the coming days.
