Chelsea eyeing Cesc Fabregas as Enzo Maresca replacement

Como boss Cesc Fabregas is the latest name on Chelsea’s managerial shortlist following the departure of Enzo Maresca.

According to Fichajes, former Arsenal playmaker and current Como boss Cesc Fabregas is a target for Chelsea. The London outfit parted ways with Enzo Maresca following internal tensions, as they have a list of candidates that includes the former midfielder.

Chelsea are facing a difficult period following internal tensions within the club. Performances on the pitch haven’t been good enough to go anywhere near a potential title challenge, while the recent managerial turmoil has brought about further scrutiny on where they might finish this season.

Chelsea sacked Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day following tensions that had prolonged for weeks. The links to Manchester City a few weeks back were probably the starting point of these problems between Maresca and the club, which has resulted in the Italian leaving Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have identified a few targets as potential replacements for the Italian, which includes Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner. There are challenges ahead to lure the Austrian, although there are doubts whether he will be the right fit given what Chelsea’s owners want from their manager.

Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior is the frontrunner for the post, as this is seen as an internal appointment. Now, former Arsenal playmaker and ex-Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has come into focus, with the Como boss being targeted for the Chelsea role.

Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea?

Fabregas has proved himself to be a good enough manager for the top level in his limited time as Como’s manager. The Italian minnows are widely expected to fight and keep hold of the Spaniard for as long as possible, although there could be a temptation to rejoin Chelsea, albeit as a manager and gain entry into a top-level Premier League side.

Barcelona had also considered Fabregas for the managerial post, although at the moment, Chelsea may be the most credible suitor. Rosenior resembles the frontrunner at the moment, although there could be a twist in the tale should Chelsea prefer someone like the former Arsenal playmaker or other candidates like Glasner over the Strasbourg boss as Maresca’s successor.
