Filipe Luis is a name on Chelsea’s radar should Enzo Maresca depart the club in the near future amid links to Manchester City.
According to Fichajes, Filipe Luis is a name high on Chelsea’s shortlist of new managers should Enzo Maresca end up leaving Stamford Bridge. Manchester City remain linked with the Italian manager, as Chelsea re ready to sound out to different names, including the Copa Libertadores-winning Flamengo boss.
Chelsea are still not in the clear about the future of Enzo Maresca, who has been linked with a departure a few times already for different reasons. Last season, many questioned the Italian when it felt like the Blues may not even make it to the top four places.
This season, there have been many ups and downs at Chelsea, which has seen many question his time at the club. However, a recent report stated, Maresca is among two names that Manchester City are considering to replace Pep Guardiola with should the Catalan depart.
Maresca has ties with Manchester City as he was an assistant under Guardiola previously, before leaving the club to take over as Parma’s head coach and then Leicester City. Maresca’s style is seen as vital for Manchester City to even consider him as Guardiola’s successor, although that might still be a distant dream, something to dwell upon in the summer.
Chelsea are already actively looking into the market for options, as Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior is also a target. Now, Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores-winning manager Filipe Luis has emerged on their radar, with the ex-defender also a player who featured for Chelsea in the past.
Filipe Luis on Chelsea’s radar?
Chelsea are actively looking to recruit the best young manager from around, as Luis certainly fits the bill in that regard. The Flamengo boss could be open to an adventure in Europe next after achieving success with the Brazilian side, as his former side, Atletico Madrid, also considers him as a potential replacement for Diego Simeone.
Liverpool were also interested when Arne Slot’s time was being questioned earlier in the season, and now, Chelsea are keeping tabs. Any movement will depend on what transpires with Maresca’s future, as Manchester City are looking at the Italian with intent.
