Tottenham undecided on Ange Postecoglou future

Daniel Levy’s Tottenham Hotspur are undecided on Ange Postecoglou’s future following their Europa League triumph.

Ange Postecoglou’s future has been a big talking point in recent months as Tottenham have struggled throughout the 2024/25 season. But having recently guided them to the Europa League title there is some hope of him being their manager next season.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Postecoglou’s future remains up in the air despite the recent triumph. While winning the Europa League has strengthened his case, the board is still divided, and as things stand, it is a 50/50 call on whether he will continue at the club.

Postecoglou’s time in North London

Postecoglou took charge of the North London club in the summer of 2023 and he did have an impressive first season in charge. His ultra-aggressive and attractive style of football gave Spurs fans a lot of hope.

But things haven’t been that great for them in the second season as Tottenham have struggled to win games in the league. They are 17th on the table and the team’s disappointing performances have put Postecoglou’s job on the line.

While they were considering parting ways with him after the end of the season, the Europa League triumph has changed things up. O’Rourke has revealed that Spurs haven’t made a decision on his future just yet, their first-ever title in 17 years and the Champions League qualification have made the board’s decision all the more difficult.

O’Rourke on Postecoglou’s future

While speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke said: “It’s papering over the cracks,”

“That Europa League success is a brilliant moment for Tottenham.

“Champions League football will boost the finances of the club and everything else, and that’s a big thing for Tottenham going forward.

“Their league form has not been good enough, there’s no getting away from that.

“It’s probably about 50/50 right now, it’s given the Spurs hierarchy food for thought and obviously the fans are very happy right now.

“I don’t think winning the Europa League will ensure Postecoglou keeps his job.

“To be fair to Postecoglou, he’s been open after the match what whatever happens will happen.

“It’s obviously given Spurs a bit more to think about, having ended that trophy drought.

“But the club’s hierarchy might be thinking they might have to make a change.”

Postecoglou could be shown the exit door

Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board held further talks about the Australian manager’s future in the wake of the Europa League success. While winning the European title is a significant moment in Spurs’ history, they could still look to change things up as they were quite disappointing in the league.

Champions League qualification will certainly boost their finances and improve their chances of attracting world-class talent, but it doesn’t guarantee Postecoglou’s continuity at the club and he is well aware of that.

While the fans are enjoying the success, the board certainly has a massive decision to make in the coming weeks. With the transfer window fast approaching, they will have to make a final call soon.
