Chelsea are fully prepared to back Italian manager Enzo Maresca and have no interest in appointing Liam Rosenior, despite recent links.
Enzo Maresca had an exceptional start to life at Chelsea as they were in contention for the Premier League title in the initial months. While the Italian manager did make it clear that they were not yet ready to challenge for the title, a strong start meant everyone expected them to secure a Champions League spot.
However, even that does not look guaranteed. As a result, there has been a lot of talk about the future of the former Leicester City boss. But according to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Chelsea have no intentions of sacking the 45-year-old. They are going to back him for now and are not looking to appoint Liam Rosenior as their next boss despite recent reports.
Will Liam Rosenior manage Chelsea?
Liam Rosenior is currently managing Chelsea’s sister club RC Strasbourg. The 40-year-old English manager is doing wonders in Ligue 1. He looks all set to guide the French club to Europe for the first time since the 2019/20 season.
While Strasbourg have slipped down to seventh after consecutive draws, they are level on points with the teams in fifth and sixth and with four games to go, they are very much in contention for a European spot. His performances have impressed people at the BlueCo, and they are now looking to hand him a new deal.
Rosenior was recently linked with a move to Southampton, but he has turned down the opportunity as the Saints will be competing in the Championship next season. The 40-year-old has made up his mind he will only return to England to manage a top-tier club.
Enzo Maresca to continue at the West London club
With the pressure on Maresca building because of Chelsea’s inconsistent performances, Rosenior has been linked with a move to the West London club. However, the report suggests the Blues are not looking at him as their next boss despite his performances at Strasbourg.
The Premier League giants do not want to part ways with Maresca at this stage. They are looking to back the Italian manager for now, even though things have not been that great for his team in the recent past.
Their win over Fulham has helped them reclaim a top-five spot, but with Nottingham Forest hot on their heels, the Blues will certainly find it difficult to secure Champions League football for next season. Irrespective of what happens, they seem to be ready to back Maresca for now.
