AS Roma are plotting a move to appoint former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag as Claudio Ranieri’s successor ahead of the summer.
According to Fichajes, Erik ten Hag has emerged as the favourites to land the AS Roma job once the season ends. The 55-year-old ex-Manchester United boss has been without a club since leaving Old Trafford at the end of October, with the Dutchman now in the frame to replace the legendary Claudio Ranieri in the Italian capital.
AS Roma have had a mixed-bag season so far, with the Friedkin Group likely to make a definitive choice over their next manager in the coming period. The owners are somewhat happy with the work under legendary manager Claudio Ranieri, who has led the charge for a top-four challenge this season.
Roma drew last weekend to top-four rivals Juventus, which ended their seven-game winning streak, although extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to 15 games. It is a terrific job that Ranieri is doing at the club, with the club holding every chance to make a dash into the UEFA Champions League places.
However, the Friedkin Group do not view the long-term future with Ranieri and have set sights on Erik ten Hag as the legendary Italian manager’s successor. There were links to Ten Hag right before Ranieri was hired to manage Roma, and now it appears the 55-year-old ex-Manchester United boss is the favourite to take over the 73-year-old.
Ten Hag was in attendance at the Stadio Olimpico as Roma held Juventus to a draw, as the 55-year-old ex-Manchester United boss was a guest of the Friedkin Group. His presence itself has fueled speculation about taking over the hot seat when AS Roma are linked with other names like Massimiliano Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini among others.
Erik ten Hag headed to AS Roma?
Ten Hag has had a few links since leaving Manchester United at the end of October. There were MLS clubs linked with a move for the Dutchman, although it appears the 55-year-old wants to continue at the top level in European football, and AS Roma could be his next destination.
RB Leipzig had links to ten Hag, and potentially, they could still consider the 55-year-old ex-Manchester United boss as a big option having already sacked Marco Rose. However, reading through the lines, it appears Roma are well ahead of rivals in the hunt for the Dutch tactician, as they probably view his brand of football as the way forward in their quest to regain a good place among other Serie A rivals.
