Manchester United considering Joachim Low as Ruben Amorim replacement

Manchester United might pursue 65-year-old German tactician Joachim Low if they decide to replace Ruben Amorim.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Joachim Low is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are weighing up parting ways with Ruben Amorim if results do not improve in the coming weeks. So, the 2014 FIFA World Cup-winning coach has emerged as a target for the Premier League heavyweights.

Joachim Low and his coaching credentials

Joachim Low has been among the most revered managers in the world for nearly two decades. An attacking midfielder as a footballer, he was a journeyman in his professional career and did not represent his national side in international football. He hung up his boots in 1995 but had already entered the coaching sphere a few years before that.

The 65-year-old went under the radar for most of his managerial career, although he took charge of well-known clubs like VfB Stuttgart and Fenerbahce. However, Low’s stock skyrocketed after he succeeded Jurgen Klinsmann as Germany’s head coach after the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

While the German tactician won only two trophies despite overseeing Germany in nine major tournaments, he sealed his legacy by guiding Die Mannschaft to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, Low has been out of a job since calling time on his elongated stint with the European giants in 2021. That has not lowered his stock, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Joachim Low is perplexing. While Ruben Amorim has struggled to stamp his authority since arriving from Sporting CP a few months ago, parting ways with him after less than a year will be baffling. The Portuguese tactician has yet to get a pre-season campaign or get the opportunity to build his squad.

While recent reports have claimed that Amorim’s job is not under threat, Fichajes claims that he is on a slippery slope. So, a few candidates have emerged on Manchester United’s radar, with Low among the targets for the Premier League club.

Apart from Low, Julen Lopetegui and Massimiliano Allegri are also on Manchester United’s radar. However, it will be surprising to see Amorim departing from Old Trafford before he takes charge of a pre-season campaign and leads the Red Devils into the 2025/26 season.
