Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly unlikely to fork out £9 million to acquire the services of Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
Ange Postecoglou did do wonders at Tottenham during his first season in charge. However, things have not been that great for him this time around. Spurs are struggling in the Premier League, and there is a lot of uncertainty around the future of the Australian manager. Thomas Frank is one of the options on their radar.
The North London club have been linked with Brentford’s Thomas Frank and according to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, they will have to fork out over £9 million to sign the Danish manager. However, there is little chance that Spurs will trigger his release clause.
Postecoglou’s team are currently 15th in the English top flight after a stretch of poor results. Tottenham have lost eight out of their 11 league games, and they are currently on a seven-match winless run in the league.
Tottenham have suffered a lot of injuries in the ongoing campaign which has played a big part in their poor form. Postecoglou’s position is the team is safe for now as Spurs are trying to avoid a managerial change mid-season. Finding an ideal coach mid-way through the season can be very tricky, which is why Spurs are looking to delay it for now.
Spurs won’t pay the price for Frank
While the North London club are looking to stick with the Australian manager for now, the pressure is mounting on him, and Spurs have been linked with a few top-class managers. Thomas Frank is one of the names on their wishlist.
The Dane has done a great job with the Brentford first team since taking charge towards the end of 2018, and people at Tottenham do acknowledge his work. Tottenham’s sporting director Johan Lange shares a great bond with Frank, and he previously tried to appoint him as Aston Villa’s manager back in the day.
Lange rates Thomas Frank quite highly and would love to have him at the North London club. They will have to trigger his release clause which is in excess of £9 million to have him on their bench. Spurs are ready to pay a release clause for the right man, but they are yet certain about doing that for Frank even though they do admire him.
