Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham Hotspur could depend on the result of their EFL Cup tie against Liverpool.
Tottenham haven’t been at their best this season. While Ange Postecoglou had made an impressive start to life at the North London club, he isn’t really enjoying life in his second season as Spurs are currently in the bottom half of the table.
Their inconsistent performances have resulted in a lot of chatter about the future of their manager. According to a report from the Mirror, Postecoglou’s fate could depend on the result of their EFL Cup semi-final tie against Liverpool at the start of next year.
On the back of an impressive spell at Celtic, the Australian manager ended up joining Spurs in the summer of 2023. He did most things right in his debut campaign and received a lot of praise for implementing a super attack-minded style of play.
While the debut campaign did go according to plan, things have fallen apart this time around. Injuries have caused quite a few problems. Spurs currently find themselves 11th on the points table in the Premier League and they have failed to win each of their last three league games.
Their recent 6-3 loss to Liverpool and 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham have been massive blows for the team. Those defeats have put Postecoglou under immense pressure and he seems to be fighting to keep his job intact.
Spurs could soon part ways with Postecoglou
For now, the former Celtic boss has the full support of chairman Daniel Levy but things could change quickly for the Australian manager with a few important fixtures lined up. His future could depend on the result of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Liverpool.
If things do not work out for them in the first leg on the 8th of January, Spurs could end up showing the exit door to Postecoglou. Tottenham last won a major silverware back in 2008 (League Cup), and they have been eager to bring an end to their trophy drought.
The opportunity to make it to the final of the League Cup is one of the major reasons why Tottenham are sticking with him for now. With people at the North London club seeking consistency, Postecoglou surely needs to turn things around.
