Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold will return to the Liverpool starting lineup from Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool are already eight points clear at the top of the table, and it will be interesting to see if they can continue their impressive run of form when they welcome a struggling Manchester City to Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Merseyside outfit picked up an impressive win over Real Madrid during the midweek in the UEFA Champions League, but they were dealt a couple of cruel injury blows. Conor Bradley picked up a hamstring injury, and Ibrahima Konate sustained a knee injury. Both players will be sidelined for an extended period.
The Reds will also be without Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota. All three players have been sidelined in recent weeks, and they are likely to miss out here. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Arne Slot spoke about Bradley and Konate.
The Liverpool manager, “They are still being assessed so it’s difficult to say where they are in terms of the injuries. Let’s wait and see but it is never a good sign if players… Conor, I had to take him off and Ibou didn’t walk off the pitch as he should have after such a fantastic game that he played. He should have made a round [of the pitch] and clapped the fans but unfortunately, he couldn’t so that’s not a good sign.
“They are still being assessed and it is so close after the game yesterday night, and I just came off the training pitch. So, I can’t tell you exactly where they are, so we have to wait and see where they are this weekend and after that.”
Liverpool are likely to start in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Manchester City, with Caoimhin Kelleher in goal. Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to return here, and he will start in the full-back position along with Andrew Robertson. Joe Gomez is likely to start in the absence of Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk in the central defensive pairing.
As for the midfield unit, Alexis Mac Allister will start alongside Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot. The two players will look to add creativity, control, and defensive cover to the side. Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will continue in the wide areas, and they will look to add goals and creativity from the flanks.
Dominik Szoboszlai will start in the attacking midfield role, and he will look to add creativity and drive to the midfield. Finally, Darwin Nunez is likely to spearhead the home side’s attack against Manchester City on Sunday.
