Pep Guardiola has finally agreed to extend his stay at Manchester City, the Spanish manager will sign a rolling contract with the English giants.
Pep Guardiola’s future has been one of the biggest talking points in the world of football since the start of the new season. Manchester City have been trying their best to ensure that the former Barcelona boss pens a new deal at the club.
According to a report from TRB, Guardiola has informed the people at the club that he is staying. The Spanish manager is signing a new one-year deal with the option of extending it for another 12 months. It is considered a rolling contract as City expect to have him around for years to come.
The new deal will see the former Bayern Munich boss be on the City bench for over a decade. His managerial career started at Barcelona where he dominated world football for four years before making the move to Germany.
After a three-year spell at Munich, he joined City in 2016 and has transformed them into one of the best teams in the world. They have dominated the Premier League under his reign having won the league title in seven out of the last eight seasons. Guardiola even helped them end their wait for the Champions League title.
Guardiola’s motivation behind the new deal
While he has won every major title during his stint at City, the Spanish boss is reportedly motivated to continue for another season because of the competition that is ensuing at the top of the English top flight.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool are pushing for the league title, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are also in the mix and Enzo Maresca is leading a revival at Chelsea. Even Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Manchester United seems to have played a part.
While he has extended his stay at the club for another year and the contract also has an option for an additional 12 months, the rolling agreement will provide Guardiola the flexibility to pursue one of his long-standing ambitions.
The Spanish manager wants to manage at the World Cup finals, and if that opportunity arises in the summer of 2026, the rolling contract will help him embark on that journey.
