Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola has reached an agreement in principle to extend his contract with Manchester City.
The long-term future of Pep Guardiola has been a massive talking point as his current deal with Manchester City is running out. The Spanish manager has been linked with a move away from the club. However, according to a report from Football Insider, the former Barcelona boss is going nowhere as he has reached an agreement in principle to extend his stay at the English club.
Guardiola, who took charge of the Manchester-based club, back in the summer of 2016 has agreed to sign a new one-year extension until the summer of 2026. Since taking charge of Manchester City, the Spanish manager has done wonders for them.
The 53-year-old has helped them win numerous league titles, and he has also ended their wait for the coveted Champions League title. Manchester City have won the last four league titles, and they are looking to make it five in a row this term.
Guardiola has decided his future
With Pep Guardiola’s current deal running out at the end of the season, there has been a lot of speculation about his future. He was recently linked with the England as well as the Brazil job after previously opening the door to international management.
Txiki Begiristain’s decision to leave the club had added fuel to the fire. However, it seems Manchester City fans can finally take a sigh of relief as the Spanish manager has agreed to extend his stay. He is all set to put pen to paper on a new one-year contract.
It is a 99% done deal after new talks between the two parties, and an official announcement is expected to arrive in the near future. Last month, Guardiola insisted he had not made a final decision regarding his future.
However, he seems to have decided to stay for another year to ensure Manchester City continue to dominate in the Premier League as well as Europe. His decision has come at a time when the Premier League champions have been struggling on the pitch as they have lost each of their last four games.
