Frank Lampard is being linked with taking over from Mark Robins at Coventry City, with competition in place for the former Chelsea man.
According to Football Insider, Coventry City considers Frank Lampard as their priority choice for the managerial role after the sacking of Robins after eight years at the helm. The Former Chelsea manager and player has been out of a job since a woeful interim role with the Blues.
Coventry City are in for a significant change in their setup after they sacked manager Mark Robins after eight years at the helm. During that period, he achieved much success, including promotions to League One and the Championships, play-off appearances in 2022-23, and an FA Cup semifinal last season.
Robins had led to a terrible start to the new campaign, and after their most recent defeat to Derby Country, Coventry City are on the brink of entering the relegation zone. They are only out of it on goal difference, as they are level on points with Plymouth.
The club hierarchy chose to part ways with Robins after eight years and now are looking at some options in the market for a replacement. The International break comes at the right time, as this would allow the club to finalise a new appointment and bring their desired target in.
Frank Lampard is Coventry City’s top target
Former Chelsea manager and player Frank Lampard is Coventry City’s top managerial target to replace Robins at the helm. The former midfielder has been in the news recently following some links to West Ham earlier in the season, while most recently, he was seen in reports to take over at Roma.
Fellow Championship sides Burnley and Birmingham City also interviewed Lampard during the summer but without any success. Now, Coventry City consider him their top target to replace Robins, and talks could get underway to understand the finer details.
There’s no clarity on whether Lampard wants to take up the role, as he has not coached a team since his woeful interim role with Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 season. His last full-time role came with Everton, where he lasted just shy of a year and had a record of 12 wins in 44 games in all competitions.
