Arsenal are interested in bringing West Ham technical director Tim Steidten as a potential candidate to replace sporting director Edu Gaspar.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal might be interested in appointing Tim Steidten as Edu Gaspar’s potential successor. The Germans flourished in their role as West Ham’s technical director in a short period. However, Steidten could view the Gunners’ interest in replacing their departing sporting director as a good opportunity.
It’s been a rocky few days at Arsenal as their form on the pitch has not convinced anyone they are willing to mount a title challenge. They also suffered their first loss in the Champions League in midweek against Inter Milan, as there’s some level of pressure on them to perform better.
Moreover, they were rocked by the news of Edu Gaspar’s shock departure, with the Brazilian set to be put on gardening leave and serve his six-month notice period. He will be in line to take on a new project before the start of next summer window, which explains why he wanted to leave at this stage of the season.
Edu does leave behind a legacy at Arsenal, as he is expected to join Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ group as the global head of football in a multi-club structure. Meanwhile, Arsenal have a big task at hand to find a suitable replacement. However, they are showing no hurry in their search, as Jason Ayto, the well-regarded assistant sporting director, is likely to assume a wider role as of now.
Arsenal keen on Tim Steidten
Arsenal may have many names on their list, with West Ham technical director Tim Steidten one of those. The Hammers man has had an indifferent time with a big role at the London side following his well-documented differences with former boss David Moyes.
Back in the summer window, Steidten was a key part in appointing Julen Lopetegui as West Ham’s new manager and also spearheaded their transfer activity. He did a decent job when tasked with a larger transfer kitty, although he was a bit frustrated about not getting the Jhon Duran deal over the line.
Should Arsenal approach for his signature, he will be given a wider role than his current one at West Ham. Joining a top club like the Gunners would be a big career switch, although things will be slow in the switch if Arsenal are serious about appointing the West Ham key man.
