Manchester United would consider talking to Massimiliano Allegri about replacing Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman’s future remains uncertain.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United may have added Massimiliano Allegri to their list of potential options to replace Erik ten Hag. The 57-year-old multi-title winner has a significant CV for the liking of INEOS chiefs, as the Italian could emerge as a strong contender alongside others if Erik ten Hag leaves the club.
Massimiliano Allegri on Manchester United’s list
Manchester United is once again a hive of drama and discontent after another terrible Premier League result. After extending Erik ten Hag’s deal in the summer following his triumph in the FA Cup, INEOS decided against sacking the Dutchman. Still, there have barely been any improvements in their form.
Having spent another fortune on new players, Ten Hag has not managed to improve the club’s fortunes on the pitch. With Sunday’s abysmal loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford, the pressure is genuinely back on the Dutch manager, as talk of a sack around Christmas has taken precedence.
Should INEOS seriously consider relieving Ten Hag from his role around the holiday period, they might consider commencing the search for his successor. Massimiliano Allegri is now added to a host of other names, including former England manager Gareth Southgate.
There have been talks of a return for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but that prospect has been ruled out since, meaning Manchester United will focus on other formidable targets. Simone Inzaghi is another name linked with replacing Ten Hag and given the quality of names, Thomas Tuchel also mentioned it, which may signify that INEOS is serious about their ideas this time around.
Is Allegri a good choice for Manchester United?
Given the circumstances surrounding the 57-year-old’s sacking from Juventus late last season, there are other doubts about his style of play. Bianconeri fans were often frustrated by Allegri’s pragmatic football, and hence, some might wonder whether the Manchester United faithful will entertain such a style.
They have had a similar manager in Jose Mourinho before, but that did not appear to work for the Old Trafford faithful. While the 57-year-old has a track record of winning multiple titles in his illustrious career as a manager, there are chances he might not be INEOS’ primary choice, although they will be interested in holding talks with the Italian if Ten Hag gets the sack.
