Everton eyeing Maurizio Sarri as Sean Dyche replacement

Everton might pursue 65-year-old Italian manager Maurizio Sarri to replace Sean Dyche for his second stint in the Premier League after his previous spell with Chelsea.

According to a report by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Maurizio Sarri is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are mulling over parting ways with Sean Dyche after a disastrous start to the 2024/25 season. So, the former Chelsea manager has emerged as a target for the Merseyside club.

Maurizio Sarri and his career so far

Maurizio Sarri has been one of the most highly-regarded managers in the past decade. A native of Naples, he did not play the game as a professional and turned into a banker while coaching part-time. The veteran tactician became a full-time manager in 1990 and took charge of over a dozen unheralded clubs before landing at SSC Napoli in 2015.

The stint with the Partenopei helped Sarri become a household name for football watchers and land on the radar of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Chelsea signed the 65-year-old from Napoli in July 2018, although that spell lasted only 12 months, with the experienced coach departing after a few run-ins with the decision-makers at the West London club.

However, the Italian tactician delivered the UEFA Europa League title in the 2018/19 season before returning to Italy. Since then, Sarri has managed Juventus and Lazio, winning the Serie A title in the 2019/20 campaign. However, he has been a free agent since leaving Lazio earlier this year. But he might soon return to the Premier League, with Everton keen on securing his services.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Maurizio Sarri is understandable. The Toffees are weighing up parting ways with Sean Dyche after enduring a horrendous start to the 2024/25 season. They are second from bottom in the Premier League standings after managing only one point from their first five games.

So, Dyche is on thin ice at Goodison Park, with several candidates, including Lee Carsley, emerging on Everton’s radar. However, Sarri is also a viable target for the Merseyside club, considering his previous experience in the Premier League with Chelsea.

The 65-year-old has the managerial style to turn things around at Everton and guide the club to stability. However, it will be interesting to see if Everton can succeed with an ambitious bid to land the former Chelsea manager if Dyche cannot save his job.
