Eddie Howe safe at Newcastle United despite bust-up rumours

Eddie Howe has the backing of senior club chiefs as his Newcastle United job is safe at the moment despite reports of a ‘bust up’.

According to Football Insider, Eddie Howe’s job as Newcastle United’s manager is safe at the moment amid reports of a ‘bust up’ in the background. There are tensions at the board level as well as between Howe and director Paul Mitchell, but the current Magpies boss has the backing of senior club chiefs.

Eddie Howe’s role not in danger

Newcastle United have had a tumultuous period in recent times, with changes at the board level and the inefficiency of director Paul Mitchell. Manager Eddie Howe has also come under the scanner following a below-par season where they did not follow up on another season in the Champions League.

Newcastle United did finish within European places, but Manchester United’s FA Cup victory ousted them out of t=continental football altogether. Meanwhile, there was a lot left to desire in the transfer market, as Howe was left disappointed at the way Mitchell conducted business.

Only Lloyd Kelly and William Osula arrived as outfield players, which does justify Howe’s disappointment at the work in the background. There have been reports of tension between Howe and Mitchell following their failure to land key defensive target Marc Guehi, which has led to further speculation about Howe’s role at St James Park.

As things stand, Howe has the backing of senior club chiefs despite the uncertainty at the board level. The English coach will continue to manage Newcastle United, and should they continue on their excellent start to the new season, he could even cement his place for years to come.

Howe prioritises a top-four finish

Howe will have his targets in place ahead of the new season and will be grounded after a solid start to the new campaign. With three wins and a draw, the Magpies are two points behind leaders Manchester City after four games and remain only one of the five teams to stay unbeaten in the Premier League.

The Magpies boss wants to avoid jumping the gun and targeting something the club cannot achieve. Howe intends to target a place in the top four. Such a finish could boost the club’s prospects financially and improve their prospects of landing and keeping critical stars in the transfer window.
