Manchester United have secured the services of former Chelsea transfer guru Christopher Vivell, edging out Newcastle United in the race.
According to a report from HITC, Manchester United have won the race for the services of Christopher Vivell. The former Chelsea transfer expert is all set to be United’s new director of recruitment. He was also on the wishlist of Newcastle United, who are on the lookout for someone who can replace Dan Ashworth. But, the Magpies have been beaten by the Red Devils.
Manchester United have already made major changes to their management since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS came into power. Jason Wilcox has taken charge as their new technical director while Ashworth has also completed his move to Old Trafford to be their new sporting director.
He had informed Newcastle about his desire to leave the club at the start of the year following which he was placed on a gardening leave. Both clubs were involved in negotiations to discuss compensation to complete Ashworth’s move. While there was no progress for months, United have finally struck a deal with the Magpies, and the 53-year-old has already taken charge at his new club.
Manchester United win race for Vivell’s services
In an attempt to replace him, the Tyneside club were looking at Christopher Vivell, who recently had a short spell at Chelsea as their technical director. While they were keen on bringing in the 37-year-old German, the Magpies have missed out on his services as Manchester United have struck a deal with him to become their new director of recruitment.
The former Chelsea transfer guru will be joining the Red Devils on a short-term basis to help them with their transfer plans and according to the report, it was the first major decision sanctioned by United’s new sporting director, Ashworth.
Vivell has worked with sister clubs Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig back in the day. He is well aware of how things work at a multi-club setup, which could be one of the reasons why United wanted him as they will have a similar setup going forward under Ratcliffe. Having missed out on the 37-year-old, the Magpies will now have to turn their attention elsewhere to find the perfect replacement for Ashworth.
