Manchester City considering Julian Nagelsmann as Pep Guardiola replacement

Manchester City are reportedly looking at German manager Julian Nagelsmann as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola.

According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester City have started planning for the long run, and they are on the lookout for an ideal manager who can take over from Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager has done wonders for City and with his long-term future uncertain, the club want to stay prepared for his potential departure, identifying Julian Nagelsmann as a target.

After dominating European football with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola took charge of the English club in the summer of 2016. He has transformed the club into a winning machine, and they are currently one of the most dangerous teams in all of Europe.

Manchester City have been dominating the Premier League since the Spanish tactician’s arrival. The Premier League champions recently lifted their fourth successive league title. Guardiola also helped them win their maiden UEFA Champions League title in the 2022/23 campaign.

Guardiola to leave Manchester City?

Pep Guardiola has been the most successful manager in the history of the English club. But, he might not be in charge of Manchester City for long. Guardiola has already admitted that he is closer to leaving than staying. While he has assured that he will continue for another season, the Spanish manager’s long-term future is still uncertain.

With his contract running out in the summer of 2025, reports have suggested that he will leave the club after the end of next season. While Manchester City’s priority is to extend his stay at the club, they are giving Guardiola the space to make a decision on his future.

Nagelsmann on Manchester City’s wishlist

If he decides to walk away, the club will happily accept it given what he has done for them. With the possibility of his departure in 2025, City have already started working on potential replacements. They have shortlisted a few managers who could take over from the former Barcelona boss and Julian Nagelsmann is one of them.

The 36-year-old has earned quite a reputation for himself with his impressive work at RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. His time with the German giants did not really end well but he is now all set to lead the German national team into the Euros at home.

Manchester City will keep a close eye on him during the continental tournament. They are already impressed with the work he has done at his previous club and his reputation as a tactical innovator makes him an attractive candidate for the English giants. With Nagelsmann’s contract with the German national team running until the summer of 2026, it will be interesting to see how things pan out from here on.
