Enzo Maresca set to complete Chelsea switch

Chelsea are reportedly all set to appoint Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca as their new manager ahead of the 2024/25 season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed a deal to appoint Enzo Maresca as their new manager. The Italian tactician has done wonders at Leicester City and on the back of his work, he has now earned himself a move to one of the English giants.

Chelsea’s pursuit of a new boss

The Blues recently parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino, who is already in talks with other clubs, with mutual consent. The two parties were not on the same page with regard to their strategies and long-term plans. As a result, they decided to go their separate ways.

With the position now vacant, Chelsea have been working hard to ensure they can appoint a new manager as soon as possible.  Even before a final decision on Pochettino’s future was taken, the club was already on the lookout for a potential replacement.

The West London club were looking for a progressive manager who could come on board with the club’s long-term plans. More importantly, they wanted someone with experience of managing in England.

Enzo Maresca is one of the managers they have been monitoring in the recent past. The 44-year-old was working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as an assistant before taking charge as the manager of Leicester City last summer.

He was given the task of taking the Foxes back to the Premier League and in his debut season as a manager, Marseca has helped them win the EFL Championship and climb back up to the top flight.

Chelsea strike a deal for Enzo Maresca

The former Pep Guardiola protege has made quite a name for himself in just one season and Chelsea are the one who have been keen on having him on their bench. The Blues have been in talks to appoint him as their manager in recent days.

According to Romano, they have reached an agreement to bring the 44-year-old to Stamford Bridge. Personal terms had already been agreed and with almost everything done, Maresca should soon officially be announced as the new Chelsea manager. His contract will be valid until the summer of 2029 with an option of another 12 months. Meanwhile, the Foxes will receive a decent compensation fee for the move.
