Kieran McKenna believes he is set to join Manchester United

Former Manchester United assistant manager Kieran McKenna believes he could take over from Erik ten Hag as their new boss.

According to a report from The Sun, Kieran McKenna feels he could make a sensation return to Old Trafford and become their next manager with Erik ten Hag’s future still uncertain. The axe could soon fall on the former Ajax manager despite their FA Cup win and the Ipswich manager could come in to replace him.

McKenna has made quite a name for himself as a manager since leaving Manchester United. The 38-year-old was an assistant manager as well as a first-team coach at Old Trafford. He parted ways with them to make the most of an opportunity at Ipswich, the move seems to have done wonders for him. He has been linked with the move to Chelsea as well. The Blues are looking to bring in a quality replacement for Mauricio Pochettino, who has been shown the door.

McKenna has guided Ipswich back to the Premier League after years of wait. He has managed to achieve successive promotions with the club to help them reach the English top flight. Meanwhile, his team have been playing an attacking and attractive brand of football which has resulted in a lot of interest.

United to appoint McKenna as their new boss?

Multiple English clubs are keen on having him on their bench but it seems Manchester United have the upper hand at this stage. While the Red Devils have just won the FA Cup with Erik ten Hag, the Dutch manager could still be shown the exit door following a poor season.

The Manchester-based club have been monitoring potential replacement options and they seem willing to take a chance on McKenna who only has two years of experience as a manager. The 38-year-old manager’s heart is set on a return to Old Trafford.

His agents are pushing hard for a deal with United and if everything goes according to plan, he could take over the reins of the club when Ten Hag is eventually sacked. While the Red Devils have a few names on their wishlist, their former assistant is in the driving seat to be their new manager.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are working hard to ensure they keep hold of a manager who has done wonders for them. They won’t want to enter into the Premier League for the first time in years with a new man in charge.
