Super agent Jorge Mendes has recommended Sergio Conceicao’s name to Chelsea as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.
According to Bola Na Rede, Sergio Conceicao has emerged as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino. The 49-year-old in-demand manager’s name has emerged following super agent Jorge Mendes’ recommendation to Chelsea, who have begun a major search for their next manager.
Sergio Conceicao to Chelsea?
Sergio Conceicao has a credible pedigree in football management, having overseen FC Porto since 2017. The Portuguese man was impressive this season in the Champions League when he managed to win against Arsenal in the first leg of their knockout round clash. He has now emerged on Chelsea’s radar as the Bleus begin the big search for Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.
Pochettino left the club by ‘mutual consent’ despite leading the club to a sixth-placed finish last Sunday. However, there might have been a few disagreements between the Argentine and the club’s owners, as the Blues’ search for his successor is already underway. The broader suggestion is that they are planning on appointing someone young and dynamic, with Conceicao now in the frame.
Conceicao’s name has come up following super agent Jorge Mendes’ recommendation to Chelsea. The Portuguese agent does have significant influence in the world of football, and the Blues have benefitted from him in the past. Whether the 49-year-old in-demand manager is the right fit for the club remains the question, but undoubtedly, he’s a big name on the shortlist.
Chelsea’s managerial targets
Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna seems like a name on CHelsea’s radar, while there are suggestions the club might even consider bringing back Thomas Tuchel. Reports have also insisted the Blues have sounded out a move for Ruben Amorim, as no decision has been made as of now on who the Pochettino successor might be.
Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is also being considered, while Chelsea might face disappointment in its pursuit of Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness. These names and more might keep popping up in the coming period until Chelsea finalises a name to become its next manager.
Much like after Jurgen Klopp’s announcement to leave Liverpool, Chelsea will be linked to a series of names between now and the next phase. As Pochettino has brought the club from a difficult place to giving them a base on which to build, the club should make the right decision in the search for his successor.
