Chelsea will not launch the offensive to sign 44-year-old former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi to replace Mauricio Pochettino.
According to a report by The Guardian, Roberto De Zerbi has been the subject of interest from Chelsea over a possible move this summer. The Blues are scouring the market for a manager after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino. However, the 44-year-old former Brighton & Hove boss will not replace the Italian tactician.
Roberto De Zerbi has been one of the most highly-rated managers in the world in the last half a dozen years. The Italian was a journeyman in his professional career but could not find a stable footing before hanging up his boots in 2013. He immediately entered the coaching sphere in 2013 but rose in prominence during his spell with Sassuolo.
De Zerbi’s eye-catching brand of football raised eyebrows, considering Serie A did not witness such a style regularly. The 44-year-old continued rising in prominence during his short spell with Shakhtar Donetsk before arriving in the Premier League in September 2022 by joining Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Italian tactician hit the ground running at the Amex Stadium, guiding Brighton & Hove Albion to a top-six finish and helping them qualify for the UEFA Europa League. However, the Seagulls failed to replicate their exploits this season and bowed out of the Europa League in the Round of 16. And De Zerbi’s spell with Brighton has ended due to differences over transfer strategy.
However, Roberto De Zerbi remains an in-demand manager in the managerial market, with several high-profile clubs keen on securing his services. Widespread reports have also linked the 44-year-old Italian tactician with Chelsea, with the West London club parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino this week.
However, Chelsea will not launch the offensive to sign the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager, ruling out a move for him. It might not be a blow for De Zerbi’s aspirations, as he dreams of coaching AC Milan and Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will not have a shortage of options after parting ways with Pochettino, even though the announcement sent shockwaves across the world. Recent reports have linked Chelsea with Kieran McKenna, Thomas Tuchel, and Hansi Flick, among several others.
